As artificial intelligence reshapes industries, women remain underrepresented—comprising nearly half of India’s graduates but less than 30% of its tech workforce. With NASSCOM forecasting a shortfall of over 600,000 AI professionals and LinkedIn projecting millions of new AI roles by 2028, there’s an urgent need to bridge this gap and unlock women’s potential in the digital economy.
Edunet, in collaboration with Microsoft and SAP, presents AI Careers for Women—a national initiative to equip women with AI as India advances towards bringing an uptick of women in the workforce in technology enabled careers.
This program offers structured training, certifications, mentorship, and hands-on project experience, empowering women to build careers in emerging tech. In collaboration with Microsoft and SAP with support from government partners like Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Edunet presents this opportunity for Women to equip with essential AI skills, preparing them for meaningful opportunities to stay relevant in the evolving job market.
Per India Skills Report 2024, the employability has improved over the previous year with over 51.25% of youth employable in the workforce. However, there’s still almost half of the available talent pool which needs to be adequately skilled. The emergence of new-age technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created a high demand for professionals with emerging skills. Per report from NASSCOM, India has an installed talent base of 416,000 AI professionals as of August 2023, and we fall short to meet the current demand of approximately 629,000. This demand is projected to escalate to 1 million AI professionals by the year 2026 and a ServiceNow survey says that this is estimated to rise to 2.73 million jobs by 2028. According to the World Economic Forum, 65% of jobs will require new skills by 2025 due to automation and AI adoption.
Hence while the upcoming workforce needs to be adequately skilled, we also need to focus on the upskilling of current workforce to keep the pace with transformations brought by AI.
